I’ve always wanted to be a writer, learning to read at a young age started my passion for writing and I’ve had at least one novel in progress ever since. My first novel, heavily influenced by Enid Blyton—then my favourite author, was written at age seven. At thirteen, my best friend and I starting writing a fantasy trilogy, which took up a great deal of time over the next few years.
After graduating in a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Macquarie University I worked as a full-time journalist, including editor of Hair and deputy editor of Money Watch before quitting to work freelance, writing articles for Vogue Australia, Black & White, Studio Bambini, Mode Brides, Interiors and Australian Collections amongst others.
Freelancing allowed me to concentrate more on my poetry and to be President of the Poets Union. I publish my poetry under my maiden name, Kate Humphrey, which has appeared in Australian newspapers, such as The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and The Bulletin, and domestic and international literary magazines
